by Mike Murray To see more of Mike Murray’s art After some preliminary sketches are made a metal plate or glass is rolled with etching ink and several drawings are made on Japanese paper that accept the ink as I draw. These are called transfer prints or monotypes.

The final size is usually 13 x 19 but can be much larger. An interesting benefit of the digital output is you can order additional prints of the portrait printed on the heavy watercolor paper.

The process typically takes two to three weeks depending on what’s in the studio
at the time of your order.

The first part of making the portrait is sharing some information about the subject either by email or phone. Then reference photos are either taken by me or sent to my studio by the client.
